Preparation starts with the substrate. Grease, dust and damaged spots come off, along with the loose natural oxide film that production and transportation leave behind, which creates a surface morphology the mechanism can embed into and improves surface chemistry and long-term durability against stress and environmental factors. White, clean, soft, non-dehairing cotton cloths carry isopropanol, methyl ethyl ketone or xylene.
Only one direction is wiped, with the double cloth method: the solvent-soaked cloth first, then a second clean dry cloth immediately, so nothing is left to volatilize on the surface. The soaked cloth is kept out of the solvent container, or the clean solvent is contaminated. Cleaning covers only the bonding and sealing part to be worked within each 1 hour period, and the cleaned surface is exposed to air as briefly as possible.
Mask the surface next to the interface with plastic tape, keeping the sealing line perfectly neat; cut the hose mouth, install the needle-nosed tube and trim it to a 45° angle that suits the caulking size, then fit the sealant gun. Along the gap, press the rubber out at that 45° angle until it closes against the substrate surface, making several passes on seams beyond 15 mm. Finish the surface with a knife, remove excess rubber, tear off the tape, take stains off with a damp cloth.
Padding takes the form of rods in open-type polyurethane, closed-cell polyethylene foam or a polyolefin material, the page recommends, so that three-sided sticking cannot occur.
The 10 minutes of skin forming time at 23 °C | 50 % r.h, non-sag consistency and 3 mm/day curing rate describe the product as tested; figures guide, they do not specify.
